Murray Head, the singer best-known for hit One Night in Bangkok, has been rushed to hospital after his car crashed into a truck in France.

Head, 76, was driving near the city of Pau, in the southern Pyrenees region, around 3pm Monday when the accident happened near his home in Saucede where he has lived for two years.

The singer – who also acted in films including Sunday Bloody Sunday and TV show Vera – had been giving an interview about the Queen’s death when he lost control of his 4×4.

He spun on a bend and hit a mixer truck coming the opposite way, French media said.

He was still conscious when rescuers arrived and was rushed to a local hospital, and the truck driver was unharmed.

Fortunately, he survived the accident with only minor injuries and was able to give an interview from his hospital bed.

‘I was going in a north-south direction and then I found myself in the other direction,’ he told La Republique de Pyrenees.

‘Was I dazzled by the sun? I do not know. I hadn’t drunk anything  I have muscle aches. It hurts a lot. I was incredibly lucky.’

The accident came when he was returning to his home after giving an interview to local media about the death of the Queen.

Head told France Bleu he met the Queen in Paris in 2004 and shook her hand which is against royal protocol.

He remains a popular singer in France after his 1975 song Say It Ain’t So which became a huge hit in the country.
