Two thrillseekers are fighting for their lives after being hurled from an apparently derailed log flume park in a theme park at a British holiday hotspot.

The accident saw four people injured yesterday at the Allou Fun Park in Athens, Greece.

Riders were thrown from their cart on the La Isla ride – which soars to heights of 50ft – as it hurtled into the water, sending the victims plunging into nearby bushes.

The two severely injured riders were a 21-year-old woman – who is now undergoing critical care for a chest injury – and a man, 24, who is having surgery for a ruptured spleen.

Theme park bosses allege the accident was caused by the riders.

The two other victims were a 22-year-old woman, who suffer a concussion, and a man named Stelios, 25, who suffered superficial injuries and has been released from hospital.

The crash occurred when the flume La Isla reportedly derailed while at high speeds.

Allou Fun Park has issued a statement denying the cart derailed and insisted the ride was safe, with the incident now under investigation by the police.

Police have arrested the theme park’s duty manager and its legal representative.

After being discharged from hospital, Stelios told ANT1 TV the theme park officials blamed the four visitors for the accident by claiming they were standing up during the ride.

He said he was knocked out and suffered injuries to the ribs, shoulder, leg and head and needed 12 stitches.

Sources told Greek media the reason behind the accident was the water level was not within required limits.

Allou Fun Park said in a statement: ‘We would like to confirm that there was never a wagon derailment, while the water level was sufficient for the safe operation of the game.

‘We still do not know the exact reasons that caused the riders to fall into a side bush, but we are in communication with them to find out all the details of the incident.

‘Given that in the thousands of hours of operation of this particular game, a similar incident has never happened before, it is really questionable how – although the wagon was in place – the riders found themselves outside the wagon.’
