The probability of occurrence of tornadoes over the Black Sea is quite high. This was reported to Izvestia on September 20 by specialists from the Phobos weather center.

“Forecasting tornadoes is a very difficult thing. Given the unstable weather, we can say that the probability of such a phenomenon over the Black Sea is quite high. Tornadoes do not live long – 5-10 minutes, up to a maximum of half an hour, and can also appear simultaneously in different places, ”the forecasters specified.

In general, tornadoes are rare in this autumn-spring period – they occur more often in summer, when there are more temperature contrasts, Phobos added.

Earlier in the day, the head of the All-Russian Research Institute for Civil Defense and Emergencies of the Russian Emergencies Ministry, Maxim Bedilo, warned about the risk of tornado formation in the Crimea and the Krasnodar Territory. He also noted that the risk of landslides and mudflows remains on the territory of the Kuban and the republics of the North Caucasus.

The day before, on September 19, the scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia Roman Vilfand spoke about a sharp cooling in the southern regions of Russia by more than 10 degrees and rains. At the same time, in areas of Crimea with a continental climate, the cooling will be even more significant – the daytime temperature will drop to 17-19 degrees.

On the same day, a powerful tornado swept through the Crimea, which caused damage to the oyster farm: it destroyed the roof and crushed five cars. No casualties were reported.
