A Spanish equality campaign has been criticised for not including men in a body-positivity artwork.

Spain’s equality ministry was slammed for saying every woman’s body is beach-ready but not saying whether men’s are as well.

The campaign artwork depicts three overweight women, a topless elderly woman after a mastectomy and a woman with unshaved legs and her armpit hair on display below a slogan of ‘summer is ours too’.

Equalities minister Irene Montero said: ‘All bodies are valid and we have the right to enjoy life as we are, without guilt or shame. Summer is for everyone!’

However, many were quick to attack the campaign for not saying men’s bodies were beach-ready as well.

‘Where are the bodies of men!?,’ one Twitter user asked. ‘Many have complexes for their baldness.’

Another joked: ‘It is that only women are deformed. Men, they all have perfect bodies. Everyone knows that.

‘Is there anything more macho than that posh girl and her ministry?

‘Always looking for ways to denigrate women.’

Even Communist politician Cayo Lara said the campaign was ‘the height of absurdity’ and ‘trying to create a problem where it does not exist’.

After the criticism, junior equality minister Ángela Rodríguez Pam said: ‘Gentlemen saying that fat women could now go to the beach without permission from Equality [ministry]: Of course we are going but we’re assuming we’ll attract hatred for teaching about a body that is not normal.’
