Ashley Cole’s model girlfriend screamed into a 999 call, begging the police to stop a home burglary – after she was hidden in a wardrobe with her son by one of the crooks.

The jurors were told the chilling emergency services tape made when masked robbers broke into the couple’s Surrey home.

Sharon Canu made the desperate plea for help when she hid with her son in a closet after the gang entered around 9:20pm on Jan. 21, 2020.

The Italian model could hear the officers begging to come immediately and say to a female operator, “Please, someone is coming into the house.” The operator replies, “We’ll help you, okay? Are they in the house right now?’

Sharon replied, “Yes,” and added, “They’re coming up the stairs.”

A terrified scream was then heard by jurors at Nottingham Crown Court when one of the robbers discovered her and Jaxon in the wardrobe – and snatched her phone, before hanging up the 999 call.

The operator asked, ‘Hello? Hello?” before I realized the line was dead.

But the halted call resulted in officers being sent to the home in Fetcham, where they rang the property’s entrance buzzer which disturbed the burglars in the midst of the raid, causing them to flee.

Kurtis Dilks, 34, has denied being part of the gang that allegedly broke into Mr Cole and his partner’s home with a sledgehammer.

Sharon recounted running to her son’s bedroom when she and Cole realized the break-in was taking place after seeing the men trying to get in, and Cole sprinted to their daughter’s room to join her.

She managed to dial 999 in time and stepped into her son’s wardrobe, but added: “A few seconds later, a man opened the door. “I screamed and grabbed my son, and he went ‘quiet’. He wanted my phone.’

Sharon said the man picked up her phone and ended the call, then walked away.

She said, ‘I walked out. I didn’t know if I should, but I needed to know where my daughter was.

Ashley sat there on his knees with his hands tied behind his back. My daughter is just standing there next to him. I went with my son still in my arms, and got my daughter.

“I knew what was going on and what they were asking him. I only focused on my children.

“I saw Ashley lying on the floor, and they were all on him. They said, ‘Give me the jewelry, take me to the vault’.

“I was worried because I knew we didn’t have much. They took Ashley and I got really worried. I didn’t know if they would grab him, hurt him, stab him?

“We were broken into two years ago. We have nothing. I said, ‘Don’t you think we’d give you everything? Get the car.”

“I thought they’d never give up because they think Ashley Cole will have a vault full of millions.”

Yesterday, the court heard Mr Cole accept that “I’m going to die” when masked robbers broke into his home and tied his hands while holding his young daughter.

The masked gang was about to torture the former player by cutting his fingers with electrician pliers when the police suddenly arrived and they fled.

They had prepared him for the ordeal by dragging him down and making him think they would throw acid in his face or burn him alive.

Mr Cole sobbed as he told detectives in an interview played out in court: “I was on my knees, waiting to either be killed… I’ll never see my kids again.

“The aggressive man was yelling. “You fucking lie to me, I’m going to kill you.”

“He kept saying, ‘Let me cut his hands. Let me cut his fingers. Give me his fingers’.’

Cole said he had just returned from work with Chelsea’s under-15s before he heard a ‘thumping noise’.

He told police: ‘As soon as I turned on Netflix, literally 10 to 15 seconds after that, I heard a thumping sound.

“I heard it was just outside my bedroom, just to the left, through the window. The banging vibrated against the walls into my bedroom.

“I literally looked at Sharon…and I said ‘what’s that?’ She said, “I don’t know, but that’s not a normal sound.”

“I got off the bed and said to her ‘that’s why I should have a weapon, like a golf club, in my bedroom’.”

Cole said he then looked to the cameras on his phone to see if he could identify the intruders.

He said, ‘I saw that they were carrying a ladder to my balcony. I said ‘Sharon, there’s someone in the yard trying to get on the balcony… call the police’.

Recalling what happened when he stepped onto his balcony, Mr. Cole said, “I cursed at them and yelled ‘help me, someone is trying to get into my house’ and they turned and wanted to run.”

He continued: ‘Now I see at least four running from a bush that is probably 15 meters away.

“They half yelled ‘agh’ and rushed to my bottom windows. I knew now, I’m going to die.

‘I have my children at home and I have no one to help. I tried to scream as loud as I could on the balcony.

“I just looked at (Mrs. Canu) and said, ‘People are coming into the house, get the kids and call the police.’ She was shocked and a little scared.’

Cole told police he was going to get his daughter while Ms. Canu went to get their son.

He said, ‘I thought if I hid, maybe they would be angrier and if I have my baby on my lap, they won’t hurt us.’

The former England defender then seemed to get emotional as he put his hands to his face, before saying: ‘I said it wouldn’t hit me, but Jesus.’

As he continued to remember what had happened, Mr. Cole said, “I was on my knees, waiting to either be killed… I will never see my children again, and I just heard many footsteps running up the stairs.

‘Obviously I heard the window smashed before that. I was brave, I didn’t want to show our daughter that I was afraid for our lives.’

Recalling what happened after the intruders went up, Mr Cole said one of the men said ‘put on’, before saying ‘give me all the f****** jewels and all the f** * *** kettles’ and ‘take me to your f****** safe’.

Kettles is cockney-rhyming slang for watches, as kettles and hobs sound like fob, which is a type of clockwork.

Mr Cole said: ‘By then he has grabbed me by the neck and I have my daughter in my arms.

‘He said ‘let go of the baby’ and I said ‘I’m not leaving my little girl here… I’m not leaving my baby’.

“I’m trying to protect my daughter – he could see I wasn’t getting up easily and he pushed my head forward a little bit harder and said ‘give me your arms, put your hands behind your back’.

His hand was always on my neck. He said ‘don’t f****** look at me, I’m not going to f****** hurt you, I just want your f****** jewels and cauldrons’.

“Now he’s getting a little pushy—he put my hands behind my back and I shuffle toward the door.

“I said, ‘Look, just grab everything, just leave me and my family alone’. Now my partner is standing at my door saying ‘leave him alone, leave him alone’.

“By that time, he’s now put on these ties (me)—they were black, long, and thick. I remember him putting them on behind my back and he did it and tied it… very tight.

“He grabbed my arms and was clearly still holding my neck. I’m still in my pants and I remember thinking ‘what’s going to happen?’ I see Sharon crying.

“My son, he saw my hands tied behind my back, and I looked at him and saw his face – he was just white.”

The men eventually fled with five designer watches, a BMW smart key, headphones, a Gucci handbag and cell phones after police arrived and pressed the buzzer at the gate of Mr Cole’s home.

Dilks faces three charges of conspiracy to commit burglary, four charges of converting criminal property, three charges of conspiracy to commit theft, and two charges of theft.

Nine other men are also on trial for their alleged part in the string of ‘ruthlessly carried out’ burglaries, including the theft of a £3.5 million tiara.

The process continues.
